Crysis 2 is a first-person shooter video game. The game was developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts and was released on November 13, 2007 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
History
Pre-release details
Crysis 2 was originally a Microsoft Studios exclusive Xbox 360 game, but was also ported to Windows (running on the Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics API) and published by Electronic Arts. When Electronic Arts announced that it was publishing the game, it was only announced to be a port of Crysis, so Crysis 2's development didn't start until the port was done. The game was ported by Dambuster Studios.
The development team also made a port for the PlayStation 3, but it was never released due to problems with the DualShock 3's memory. The PlayStation 3 version was later released for PC via Digital River's PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store.
It is also one of only a few games to feature PlayStation 2 graphics (the other one being Sticker Star, a WiiWare game).
Reception
Crysis 2 received highly positive reviews, with an aggregate score of 89 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 92 critic reviews, and an average score of 8.4 from GameRankings, based on 68 reviews. The graphics were praised for being as high-resolution as possible for a first-person shooter. Reviewers also praised the game's storyline and the attention to detail. The first-person shooter game was generally well-received by the gaming public. However, it was criticized for its mediocre gameplay and the lack of a multiplayer mode, though it was noted to be one of the better multiplayer shooters released in 2007.
In its first week of release, Crysis 2 sold 1.2 million copies worldwide, and was one of the best-selling video games of the year. As of April 2, 2010, the game has sold over six million copies worldwide. On April 8, 2010, the game was named the best-selling game of 2009 at the UK retail sector. Crysis 2 won the award for Best Shooter at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards.
In 2011, Crysis 2 was featured in a poll in which readers of the Official Xbox Magazine voted the Xbox 360 version the best shooter game of all time.
